Obverse description The central field features the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, a rising sun, and a dove in flight, all within a shield supported by decorative scrollwork and flanked by laurel branches. The motto legend 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' arcs across the upper portion of the arms on a ribbon. The date '2005' is split to either side of the shield, with '20' at left and '05' at right. The outer legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' runs along the upper periphery, while a secondary inscription 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' appears on a banner below the shield. A fine milled border frames the entire design.

Additional information

Liberia's silver dollar-denominated issues from the mid-2000s were produced almost entirely for the international collector market, not domestic circulation — the country was still recovering from fourteen years of consecutive civil wars that had gutted its financial institutions and rendered its own currency nearly worthless in practice. These pieces were struck by private mints under licensing arrangements, with the Liberian government receiving a modest royalty while bearing no responsibility for distribution.

The $10 face value is purely nominal, pegged to nothing and redeemable nowhere.
