Obverse description Central field features the coat of arms of Kiribati, comprising a heraldic shield charged with a rising sun above wavy lines representing the Pacific Ocean and a frigate bird in flight across the upper portion of the shield. Below the shield, a scroll-shaped banner is inscribed with the national motto in the Gilbertese language. The issuer name KIRIBATI and the date 1998 appear in the legend along the lower periphery of the coin.

Reverse description The central field depicts a dramatic high-relief scene of the RMS Titanic listing sharply to starboard as she sinks beneath the waves, with lifeboats visible in the foreground on the water. The arc legend along the upper periphery reads LAUNCH 02.04.1912 and SINKING 15.04.1912, flanking the central motif. The denomination $10 appears in the lower left field, and the name TITANIC is inscribed along the lower exergual area in bold capital letters.
