The Flying Cloud was an American clipper ship launched in 1851 from the East Boston yard of Donald McKay, and she set a New York-to-San Francisco record of 89 days and 8 hours that same year — a mark she broke herself in 1854 with a run of 89 days and 8 hours, cutting her own record by a matter of hours. Liberia issued a long series of silver commemoratives in the early 2000s under licensing arrangements with foreign distributors, coins produced almost entirely for the collector market with no domestic circulation whatsoever.
