Byers Island has no permanent population, no government, and no economy — it is an unincorporated unorganized territory of the United States in the Phoenix Islands group, claimed under the Guano Islands Act of 1856. It has never had a currency, a central bank, or any issuing authority. Notes bearing its name are privately produced novelty items with no legal tender status anywhere.
The watermark and security thread give it the surface appearance of official paper currency. They do not change what it is.
