Additional information

The Amber Chamber — originally installed in the Catherine Palace near St. Petersburg — was looted by German forces in 1941, crated, and shipped to Königsberg. It was last seen publicly in 1944 and has never been recovered. Whether it was destroyed in the Allied bombing of Königsberg or concealed somewhere in eastern Europe remains genuinely unresolved. Palau's commemorative program has long targeted subjects with this kind of suspended historical drama.
