The Ta-Ching Government Bank was established in 1905 as the Qing dynasty's first attempt at a centrally controlled state bank, replacing the older Hu Pu Bank. This note was printed by the American Bank Note Company in New York — a common arrangement for Chinese government issuers of the period who lacked domestic intaglio printing capacity and needed notes resistant to local counterfeiting.
The timing is significant. Issued in 1910, this note appeared just one year before the Xinhai Revolution brought down the Qing dynasty entirely. The bank was reorganized as the Bank of China in February 1912, making the late Ta-Ching issues among the shortest-lived of any Chinese national series.
