Obverse description The central field displays the coat of arms of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, featuring a shield divided into two quarters: the upper half bearing a rising sun over the sea, and the lower half depicting a sailing ship on waves. The shield is supported on the dexter side by a marlin and on the sinister side by a flamingo, both rendered in high relief. Above the shield, a conch shell surmounted by a palm tree serves as the crest. Below, a scroll banner carries the national motto in two lines: FORWARD UPWARD ONWARD TOGETHER. The circumferential legend COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS arcs around the upper field, with the date 1984 appearing in the lower field, all within a beaded border. The Valcambi mint mark (CHI) appears to the lower left of the arms.
