Additional information

Kiribati issues no independent coinage for domestic circulation — the Australian dollar functions as the de facto currency across the islands. These silver issues are produced under licensing arrangements with external mints and exist entirely for the collector market, bearing the Kiribati name largely because the issuing authority can be leased as a novelty.

The "Silent Night" series commemorates the 1818 premiere of the carol at St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Austria, composed by Franz Xaver Gruber to a text by Joseph Mohr.
