| Aversbeschreibung | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Liberia at center, featuring a three-masted sailing ship on the sea, a dove in flight, a palm tree, and a rising sun above a ploughshare, all enclosed within a decorative wreath. The national motto legend THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE arcs around the upper portion of the arms, while REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appears on a scroll at the base. The denomination 10 DOLLARS and the date 2005 are inscribed in bold relief below the arms in the lower field. The coin is struck in a distinctive non-circular shape, evoking the outline of a papal dove in profile, with a finely milled border. |

| Reversbeschreibung | The reverse features the Sede Vacante emblem of the Holy See, rendered in gilded relief at center: a papal umbrella (umbraculum) surmounting the crossed Keys of Saint Peter, tied with an ornate tassel, all finished in gold. Above this device, a Latin cross is inlaid with faceted baguette Swarovski crystals, creating a brilliant gemstone effect against the dark mirror-polished field. Radiating incuse lines extend from the central device toward the wings of the dove-shaped flan. The legend SEDE VACANTE is inscribed horizontally to the left and right of the umbraculum, and the Roman numeral date MMV appears in the lower shield-shaped lobe of the flan. |

Sede Vacante issues mark the interregnum between papal reigns, and Liberia has been among the most prolific producers of such pieces — striking commemoratives for virtually every vacancy since the 1970s with no formal connection to the Vatican. This 2005 piece marks the vacancy following the death of John Paul II on April 2nd of that year, a pontificate of nearly 27 years that generated an outsized collector market for related issues.
The Swarovski crystal addition places it squarely in the novelty collector segment that emerged in the late 1990s, when several non-European mints began embedding Austrian crystals under licensing arrangements to command premium retail pricing.
