The S.M.79 Sparviero was an Italian tri-motor medium bomber that, despite its ungainly appearance, became one of the most effective torpedo bombers of World War II — a reputation built largely in the Mediterranean against Allied shipping. This Marshall Islands commemorative was part of a prolific series of brass $10 pieces issued in the early 1990s targeting the collector novelty market rather than circulation.
