Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts a dramatic maritime scene in high relief: a lone tall ship is beset by tempestuous seas, its sails straining against the storm, while a colossal Kraken erupts from the ocean depths, its writhing tentacles threatening to engulf the vessel. The composition is richly detailed, combining elements of nautical and mythological iconography in a dynamic, cinematic style. The country name ANTIGUA & BARBUDA arcs across the upper field, and the date 2024 appears in the lower exergue.

Aanvullende informatie

The Rum Runner series draws on the genuine history of Caribbean bootlegging operations that supplied American markets during U.S. Prohibition (1920–1933), when island distillers found themselves in the unlikely position of running a thriving export trade northward. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank has leaned into this heritage with collector-focused bullion issues that carry legal tender status across its eight member territories.

The Kraken pairing is purely mythological marketing — no documented sightings off the Leeward Islands, naturally — but the ECCB has been deliberately aggressive in commissioning high-concept numismatic programs since the early 2020s to compete in a crowded sovereign bullion market.
