| Obverse description | Against a polished black field, a high-relief rendering of Gian Lorenzo Bernini's marble sculptural group depicts Pluto forcibly carrying Proserpina, accompanied by the three-headed dog Cerberus at the base, all rendered in antiqued silver finish. The ornate border features an intricately engraved foliate and shell decorative frame in matte finish. To the upper left, a shield-shaped cartouche bears the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau with the legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU and RAINBOW'S END inscribed thereon. The denomination 10 DOLLARS appears in the left field. |

Palau has operated a prolific commemorative coin program since the 1990s, licensing its sovereign minting authority to European producers — primarily in Austria and Germany — to generate revenue through numismatic sales rather than circulation. This piece is part of that commercial apparatus, not a product of any domestic monetary need.
The Rape of Proserpina series draws on Baroque sculpture, specifically Bernini's 1621–1625 marble group in the Borghese Gallery, Rome — a work commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese when Bernini was just 23.
