| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the full national coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia in high relief at centre, featuring a sailing ship on the sea, a palm tree, a rising sun, a plough, and a spade, all enclosed within a shield surmounted by a dove in flight. A scroll beneath the shield bears the legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA, while a ribbon above the arms carries the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The date 1994 is divided across the lower field to either side of the arms, and the denomination and silver content legend ONE OUNCE 10 DOLLARS FINE SILVER arcs along the lower rim. The outer border is dressed with a continuous band of reeded denticles. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Liberia's early-1990s wildlife series was produced almost entirely for the collector market, with virtually no coins from this program entering general circulation. The Central Bank contracted foreign mints — primarily in the United States and Germany — to produce these issues, as Liberia's own minting infrastructure was nonexistent. By 1994, the country was emerging from the first phase of its brutal civil war, and hard currency export through collector coin programs was one of the few reliable mechanisms for generating foreign exchange.
The pygmy hippopotamus is native to the forests of West Africa, with Liberia holding one of the last significant wild populations.
