Barbados has issued bullion and collector gold in its own name since the 1970s, but the Pelican series belongs to a wave of Eastern Caribbean wildlife coinage that accelerated sharply after the Royal Mint and Perth Mint began competing aggressively for small-nation licensing contracts in the late 2010s. The brown pelican is Barbados's national bird, declared so in 1966 at independence.
One troy ounce at .999 fineness places this squarely in the modern bullion tier, not the numismatic one.
