Patricia Nixon appears here as part of the First Spouse Gold Bullion series, which the Mint launched in 2007 to accompany the Presidential Dollar program. Each issue pairs with its corresponding presidential dollar release. Nixon's coin presented a bureaucratic wrinkle: because Richard Nixon was assigned two presidential dollars — one for his first term, one for his second — the First Spouse program required two separate Patricia Nixon issues as well, making her one of the few figures to appear twice in the series.
Mintages for the later First Spouse issues collapsed dramatically from early series highs, driven by gold price increases and flagging collector interest by the mid-2010s.
