Namibia's involvement in Olympic commemorative coinage was largely a commercial licensing arrangement — the Bank of Namibia issued several such pieces during this period through external minting programs rather than domestic production. The Beijing Games series attracted dozens of issuing authorities with nominal sovereign connections to the event, and Namibia sent athletes to the 2008 Games, giving the issue at least a functional premise.
Struck to .999 fineness rather than the more common .925 used by most Olympic program partners that year.
