| Reverse description | A dynamic figure of a sprinting athlete is depicted in high relief at left, rendered in silver, shown in full stride in a horizontal running pose. Alongside the sprinter, a naturalistically colourized cheetah strides in full gallop to the right, its spotted coat rendered in applied polychrome colour. The upper legend 'OLYMPIC GAMES 1996' arcs along the top of the field, while the denomination '$10' appears in the lower exergue, all within a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Namibia had only regained independence from South African administration in 1990, making the 1996 Atlanta Games the country's first Olympic appearance as a fully sovereign nation for just six years. The coin was issued by the Bank of Namibia partly as a hard-currency fundraising instrument — newly independent African states routinely licensed commemorative programs through foreign minting agencies in the 1990s to generate foreign exchange, and this piece almost certainly saw more time in European collector trays than in domestic circulation.
