| Reverse description | The reverse features a three-quarter front view of a 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang convertible rendered in fine relief against a smooth field, capturing the iconic early pony car in precise automotive detail including the characteristic long hood, round headlamps, and signature grille. The date 1996 is inscribed in large numerals along the upper rim. Below the central automotive motif, the legend 1964 1/2 MUSTANG appears in the field above the oval Ford Motor Company trademark logo. The denomination TEN DOLLARS is boldly inscribed in large letters along the lower periphery. |

The Republic of the Marshall Islands issued a sustained run of commemorative coinage through the 1990s, largely targeting the collector market rather than domestic circulation — the islands' functional currency remained the US dollar throughout. Nordic Gold, an alloy of copper, aluminum, zinc, and tin developed by the Swedish company Nordic AB in the late 1980s, was adopted by several non-circulating issuers during this period for its resemblance to gold at a fraction of the cost. The Mustang issue falls squarely within that commercial commemorative wave.
