The Murchison meteorite fell near Murchison, Victoria, in September 1969 — the same year as the Apollo 11 landing, which lent the event outsized public attention. It remains one of the most scientifically significant carbonaceous chondrites ever recovered, containing over 90 different amino acids, more than 70 of which are extraterrestrial in origin. Its fall produced a fragmentary strewn field yielding roughly 100 kg of recoverable material.
Fiji's involvement as issuer is purely commercial; Australian-themed numismatic issues bearing Pacific island authority are a well-established licensing arrangement with no geographic connection to the subject matter.
