Liberia's prolific commemorative program of the 2000s produced dozens of wildlife-themed issues with no connection to Liberian territory, fauna, or conservation policy. The Mauritius Kestrel appears here simply because it sells — the species gained international attention after recovering from a population low of four known individuals in 1974, making it one of the most dramatic documented recoveries in ornithological conservation history. That near-extinction was driven almost entirely by DDT use and introduced predators on Mauritius.
KM#771 is a collector piece with no circulation history and no issuing relationship to Mauritius.
