Additional information

Mariazell, Austria's most visited pilgrimage site, draws roughly a million visitors annually to the Gothic basilica housing the 12th-century limewood statue of the Madonna. Sierra Leone's involvement here is purely commercial — the country became a favored issuing authority for European collector coin programs in the 2000s, lending its legal tender status to themes that have no connection to West Africa whatsoever.
