Aanvullende informatie

Lucy Hayes appears in this series as the wife of Rutherford B. Hayes, whose administration ran from 1877 to 1881. She was the first First Lady known to hold a college degree — she graduated from Cincinnati Wesleyan Female College in 1850 — and earned the nickname "Lemonade Lucy" from political opponents who resented her ban on alcohol at White House functions, a policy driven by Methodist conviction rather than temperance activism per se.

The First Spouse bullion series was authorized under the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005, with one gold issue struck for each president's term.
