Hutt River Province — the self-declared micronation founded by Leonard Casley in Western Australia in 1970 after a dispute over wheat production quotas — issued commemorative coinage with surprising regularity throughout the 1980s and 1990s, targeting the collector market directly. These pieces were never intended for circulation and were priced as numismatic souvenirs from the moment of issue.
Clinton's January 1993 inauguration gave Casley a pretext to strike another silver round. The X# prefix in the Standard Catalog denotes non-circulating issues from unofficial or fantasy states — appropriate, given that Hutt River's legal status as a sovereign entity was never recognized by Australia.
