Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, depicting a shield quartered with woodcutting tools and a sailing vessel, supported by two shirtless woodcutters — one holding an axe and one a paddle — flanking a mahogany tree above the shield. The entire armorial composition is encircled by an olive wreath. The country name BELIZE arcs along the upper legend, while the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO appears on a scroll at the base of the arms, and the date 1979 is inscribed in the lower field. A beaded border frames the design along the rim.
