| Beschrijving voorzijde | The Jamaican coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing five golden pineapples, supported on the dexter by a female Taino figure holding a basket of fruit and on the sinister by a male Taino figure holding a spear, both in traditional dress. A crocodile passant surmounts the helm above the shield, flanked by elaborate mantling. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto in the legend OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE. The country name JAMAICA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination TEN DOLLARS and the date 1979 are inscribed in large characters along the lower field. The mint mark CHI appears in small letters at lower center. |

The International Year of the Child was declared by the United Nations for 1979, the twentieth anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Jamaica was among the nations that issued collector pieces to mark it. The piedfort — struck at twice the standard planchet thickness — was a format revived by several mints in the late 1970s for prestige collector issues, and KM#P1 designates this as Jamaica's first catalogued piedfort.
