Additional information

The IL-2 Shturmovik was produced in greater numbers than any other military aircraft in history — over 36,000 built — and Stalin personally intervened when factories slowed production in 1941, telegraming the plant directors that the Red Army needed the aircraft "like air, like bread." The Marshall Islands issued a long-running series of $10 commemoratives throughout the late 1980s and 1990s targeting the collector market directly, with no meaningful circulation ever intended.
