| Obverse description | The national arms of Liberia occupy the central field, depicting a shield bearing a sailing ship at sea and a palm tree with a rising sun, surmounted by a scroll inscribed with the national motto. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE appears on a ribbon across the upper portion of the shield. The date 2006 is divided to either side of the arms, and the denomination 10 DOLLARS is inscribed in the lower exergue, with REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA repeated on a ribbon below the arms. |

Liberia's commemorative dollar series of the 2000s was frankly a commercial operation — coins struck for the collector market with no meaningful circulation in Liberia itself. This piece marks the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian uprising, when an estimated 200,000 Hungarians fled across the Austrian border following Soviet military suppression of the revolt in November of that year.
The Kádár government installed by Moscow afterward ruled Hungary until 1988.
