10 Dollars Heroes of the North Atlantic

The Marshall Islands began issuing commemorative coinage in the late 1980s under legislation that created the Republic of the Marshall Islands Commemorative Coin Program — a revenue-generating scheme that produced dozens of themed issues throughout the 1990s, few of which saw any meaningful domestic circulation. The "Heroes of the North Atlantic" issue commemorates the Allied convoy campaign against German U-boat warfare in World War II, a campaign in which roughly 3,500 merchant and naval vessels were lost across the entire war.

Struck in brass by foreign minting contractors, these pieces were sold directly to collectors rather than released through banking channels.
