Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, depicting two mestizo woodcutters as supporters — one bearing an axe, the other a paddle — flanking a shield charged with crossed tools and a sailing ship, surmounted by a mahogany tree. A flowing ribbon scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto in Latin. The legend BELIZE arcs across the upper field, the date appears at the bottom, and the entire design is framed by an encircling wreath of laurel branches and a beaded border.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering BELIZE SUB UMBRA FLOREO FM 1974
(Translation: I flourish in the shade.)
