Additional information

Issued to mark the retirement of the French franc following euro adoption on January 1, 2002, this is one of dozens of near-identical "farewell currency" pieces Liberia produced during the early 2000s — a prolific series targeting European collectors grieving their national currencies. Liberia had no monetary relationship with the franc whatsoever. The coins were struck by private minting houses and licensed through Liberia's government purely as a revenue mechanism, exploiting its issuing authority with no intention of circulation.
