Additional information

Issued to mark the Netherlands' adoption of the euro and retirement of the guilder, which ceased to be legal tender on January 28, 2002 after roughly 500 years of continuous use. Liberia ran a cottage industry of such commemoratives throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, producing silver-plated issues for foreign markets — particularly European collectors — with no meaningful connection to the issuing nation beyond the legal authority to strike them.
