Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features a colorized reproduction of both sides of the Austrian 1000 Schilling banknote prominently displayed in the central field, showing the portrait of Sigmund Freud on the obverse of the note and the reverse design below it. Behind the banknote, engraved in the field to the left, is a detailed depiction of a Viennese neoclassical building, and to the right, the iconic Wiener Riesenrad (Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel). A trilingual legend encircles the design: ABSCHIED VON DER ÖSTERREICHISCHEN WÄHRUNG at upper left, GOODBYE AUSTRIAN CURRENCY at upper right, and ADIEU A LA MONNAIE AUTRICHIENNE at the lower arc, all separated by star stops. The denomination TEN DOLLARS appears in the lower field.

Aanvullende informatie

Liberia ran an extensive commemorative program throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, issuing silver-plated base metal pieces by the hundreds for the international collector market — virtually none of which circulated domestically. This piece marks the 2002 introduction of euro banknotes and coins in Austria, which replaced the schilling after a transitional period that began with the euro's accounting introduction in 1999. The schilling had been Austria's currency since 1925, interrupted only by the Anschluss years when the Reichsmark was imposed.
