| Obverse description | The obverse displays the full national coat of arms of the Republic of Namibia at centre, featuring a heraldic shield supported by two oryx flanking either side, with a fish eagle displayed above the shield. A scroll beneath the supporters bears the national motto 'UNITY LIBERTY JUSTICE' in the legend along the lower rim. The legend 'REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA' arcs along the lower border, with the date '2009' appearing in the exergue below the arms. The design is struck in high-relief proof finish against deeply mirrored fields. |

Frederick III, after whom this coin is named, was the last German Emperor to die in office before abdication — reigning just 99 days in 1888 before succumbing to throat cancer. His death ended any realistic prospect of a liberal constitutional turn in German imperial politics, a consequence historians still debate. Namibia's interest in him is colonial: German South West Africa, the territory that became Namibia, was formally established under his reign.
The bimetallic format — a silver field with a fine gold insert — was a popular Namibian commemorative technique in the 2000s, seen across several issues in this KM series.
