| Opmerkingen |
First National City Bank rebranded to Citibank in 1976 — the same year this cheque was issued — which makes pieces bearing the "First National City Bank" name transitional artifacts from one of American banking's most significant corporate identity shifts. The American Bank Note Company printed these in New York, as they had printed travelers cheques and financial instruments for major issuers for well over a century by that point.
Travelers cheques occupied a serious slice of international travel finance through the 1970s before credit card networks made them largely redundant. Citicorp's were widely distributed and heavily used, which means survivors in clean condition are less common than the print runs suggest.
