| 表面の説明 | The national seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands occupies the central field, depicting a frigatebird with outstretched wings above a traditional Marshallese outrigger canoe on stylized waves, flanked by a sun in rays at the top, a traditional tool (jo-kio) to the upper left, and a fish to the upper right, with coral and vegetation in the lower field. Crossed navigational sticks (rebbelib) appear below the central device, above a rectangular cartouche inscribed SEAL. The entire central design is encircled by a decorative chain border. The curved legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS appears in the upper field, while the denomination $10 is inscribed to the left and the date 1995 to the right; the Marshallese motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN runs along the lower border. |

The Marshall Islands began issuing collector-oriented legal tender coinage in the late 1980s through a licensing arrangement with the private firm Medallic Art Company, producing brass and clad pieces in quantities driven entirely by collector demand rather than any domestic monetary need. The $10 denomination was never intended to circulate — the islands' functional currency has always been the US dollar.
KM#239 is one of dozens of themed issues the RMI released throughout the 1990s, a program that drew sustained criticism from numismatic bodies for blurring the line between coins and medals.
