The F6F Hellcat was the U.S. Navy's answer to the Japanese Zero's early dominance in the Pacific — designed by Grumman after combat data from captured Zero specifications was rushed to their engineers in 1942. By the time the type reached fleet service, it achieved a kill ratio exceeding 19:1 against Japanese aircraft. The Marshall Islands issued a long run of brass novelty commemoratives through the early 1990s targeting the collector market directly, with no genuine circulation intended.
