The Marshall Islands operated an unusual commemorative coinage program through the 1990s, issuing brass dollar-denominated pieces that circulated legally but were clearly aimed at collectors rather than commerce. The F-86 Sabre subject fits squarely into that pattern — the jet earned its reputation during the Korean War, where U.S. Air Force pilots flying Sabres engaged Soviet-built MiG-15s over "MiG Alley" near the Yalu River, achieving a kill ratio officially claimed at 10:1, though later scholarship has revised that figure considerably downward.
