The Marshall Islands began issuing commemorative coinage in 1986, shortly after gaining sovereignty, and quickly became prolific — some would say excessive — in producing collector-targeted dollar denominations with no meaningful circulation history. This F-4 Phantom II issue belongs to that wave. The Phantom itself was retired from U.S. Navy front-line service in 1986, making this a retrospective tribute rather than a contemporary one.
