Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's long-running Lunar New Year series, this issue marks 2017 as the Year of the Rooster — the tenth sign in the twelve-year Chinese zodiac cycle. The RCM has aggressively courted Asian-Canadian collectors and Pacific Rim markets since the early 2000s, and these lunar issues are produced in strictly limited quantities, with mintage caps enforced at the point of sale rather than adjusted after the fact.
The .9999 fine silver specification places it among the purest circulating-weight silver issues the Mint produces.
