Additional information

Issued to mark the April 2011 wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, this Cook Islands commemorative belongs to a wave of legal-tender issues licensed through the Pacific island's long-standing arrangement with third-party minting houses — in this case almost certainly the Pobjoy Mint or a comparable contractor. Cook Islands has no domestic mint and derives meaningful revenue from these licensing agreements, which have produced hundreds of distinct commemorative types since the 1970s.

Westminster Abbey has hosted every English coronation since William the Conqueror in 1066, and the 2011 wedding was the first of a future heir to the throne held there since 1947.
