The Earl is depicted in a suit and tie, while the Countess wears a tiara, veil, and pearl necklace with a cross pendant. The circular legend FIRST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY OF THE EARL AND COUNTESS OF WESSEX runs around the upper periphery, with the date June 19th 1999 inscribed in a decorative cartouche at centre base, and the denomination $10 appearing at the very bottom of the field. |

The Pobjoy Mint, based in Surrey, has operated as the official minter for the British Virgin Islands since the territory began issuing collector coinage in 1973. By 2000, the BVI's commemorative program had grown into one of the more prolific in the Caribbean, issuing dozens of thematic pieces annually with limited genuine local circulation. This piece marks the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip — the 1997 milestone — issued here with a three-year lag that was unremarkable for smaller issuing authorities dependent on contracted mints.
