| Additional information |
Vostok Station, the Russian Antarctic research base, recorded the lowest naturally occurring air temperature ever measured on Earth's surface — −89.2°C in July 1983. Fiji issued this piece as part of a broader wave of Pacific-nation commemoratives produced for the international collector market in the early 2000s, a practice driven almost entirely by licensing revenue rather than domestic demand. Very few of these coins ever circulated in Fiji.
