The Solomon Islands has operated as a prolific issuer of themed commemorative silver for the collector market since the 1990s, with pieces like this bearing no meaningful connection to the nation beyond its licensing arrangement with private minting houses — primarily the Scottsdale Mint and several European producers. The Titanic sank in April 1912 after striking an iceberg approximately 375 miles south of Newfoundland, with 1,517 lives lost.
The wreck was located by Robert Ballard in 1985 at roughly 3,800 meters depth.
