Part of the RCM's ongoing fine silver collector series celebrating Canadian institutions, this issue appeared in the same year the RCMP marked its 140th anniversary — the force having been established by Parliament in 1873 as the North-West Mounted Police to assert federal authority over the newly acquired Rupert's Land territories. The name change to Royal Canadian Mounted Police came only in 1920, following the force's merger with the Dominion Police.
The .9999 fineness places it among the purest silver issues the RCM produced at this diameter, a standard the mint adopted aggressively in the 2010s to differentiate collector strikes from bullion product lines.
