| Beschrijving keerzijde | A highly detailed rendering of HMS Resolution, a three-masted, full-rigged sailing ship of the line associated with Captain James Cook's voyages, is depicted in profile with sails fully set, occupying the central field. The ship rests above a stylized compass rose or starburst device, within which the denomination 10 DOLLARS is inscribed in two lines. The legend THE RESOLUTION curves along the upper rim in raised letters. The overall composition is executed in high relief consistent with proof striking. |

The Resolution was Cook's second vessel of exploration, a converted Whitby collier that carried him on his second and third Pacific voyages between 1772 and 1779. Niue's commemorative program of the early 1990s leaned heavily on Cook's connection to the Pacific, though Niue itself was sighted by Cook in 1774 aboard that same ship — he named it Savage Island after his crew was driven off by the inhabitants.
