The Royal Canadian Mint's glow-in-the-dark coin program, launched commercially around 2013–2014, applied phosphorescent printing directly onto the coin's reverse — a technique borrowed from security printing rather than traditional numismatic production. Phosphorescent inks on these pieces do degrade over years of UV exposure, so storage conditions genuinely affect the coin's primary selling point in a way that has no parallel in conventional silver issues.
