The inukshuk became internationally recognized when a stylized version was adopted as the emblem for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics — a decision that generated considerable debate among Inuit communities, who noted that the design departed from traditional stone-stacking conventions and was created by a non-Inuit designer.
