Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the fourth portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted with a diademed and draped bust. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left field, while COOK ISLANDS 2016 arcs along the upper right. The denomination 10 DOLLARS appears in the lower exergue, with the engraver's initials IRB incuse below the bust truncation. The coin is struck in an antiqued finish, lending depth and contrast to the high-relief portrait.

Additional information

Sif is a Norse deity associated with earth and grain, wife of Thor, whose gold hair was famously shorn by Loki and replaced by dwarven craftwork — an episode that also produced Mjölnir as collateral. Cook Islands has issued an extensive run of Norse mythology coins through this period, predominantly struck by the BH Mayer mint in Germany under license arrangements common to Pacific sovereign issues of this type.
