| Description de l’avers | The obverse features a highly sculptural, ultra-high relief depiction of a mountaineer in full expedition gear — oxygen tanks, crampons and ice axe visible — ascending a steep snow-covered ridge with the towering rocky face of Mount Everest rising dramatically in the background. Set within this panoramic scene is a sunken circular inset bearing the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after Ian Rank-Broadley, with the legend ELIZABETH II above and COOK ISLANDS to the right, the denomination 10 DOLLARS at the top of the inset, and the date 2023 below the portrait. An extended commemorative inscription runs along the entire inner rim of the coin in small incuse lettering, recounting the historic first ascent of Everest on 29 May 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay as members of the British Mount Everest Expedition. |

Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay summited Everest on 29 May 1953, but the news was held back by expedition dispatches and only reached London on the morning of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation — 2 June 1953. The timing was treated as a gift to the new reign, and the link between the summit and the coronation became fixed in British Commonwealth memory almost immediately.
Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver in this weight class prolifically since the 1990s, largely through wholesale arrangements with European distributors rather than domestic demand.
