Mont-Saint-Michel has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, but Cook Islands chose it for this issue almost certainly because the subject sells — the Pacific nation's numismatic program is one of the most prolific collector-market operations in the world, routinely licensing European architectural and cultural imagery with no political or historical connection to the islands themselves.
